The BK Project…
A school of thinking steeped in the audio tradition of mutant hip-hop,ragga, punk, crunk and then some.
“I remember writing the lyrics that would come to be known as Witness(1 hope).. in the face of the music climate of 2000 the battle ground that was radio, club and t.v had little time for homegrown music culture. I wanted to start the building block of a middle finger to fake depthless sonic pussy footing of the Uk Black music of the time. I had nothing but an equal love of ragga and hip – hop and a genuine obsession with Uk Sound System culture.”- Roots (baby) Manuva
Today Banana klan is a reality: Have equipment, have crew and we do what the fuck we feel like in face of all the lack of understanding, non belief and further more pussy foot industry wagon chasing.
In a sense it’s easy to state the “we’ve paid our dues” spiel..
But I must stress the actuality of suffering for the art and keeping in touch with rapid changes that technological advances thrust upon the unsuspecting purest. Leaving mere shells of men and women who used to be great back in the day and today are still stuck back in the day. Funny that when all the talk on the street is of retro and old school re hashing. Love will never become out dated, passion speak louder than words. See or hear Klan and be warned you are dealing with people who are mad about music.
Through these pages we hope to shed light on what has been silently building for 10 years, and even more if we go back to countless sound tape cassette stars of the pre internet years.
DUB COLLEGE is the podcast and club event concept, BANANA KLAN is the collective essence Roots Manuva (live) touring party.
We are here to stay, spreading love and over standing.
